Established in 1860
A heritage tea house in Uji,
Kyoto, Japan
Founded in Man'en 1 (1860), amid the upheaval of the late Edo period, Uji's tea masters lost the patronage of the Tokugawa shogunate, causing Uji's tea gardens to fall into decline.
Concerned by this, Tsujiri's founder, Riemon TSUJI, devised a highly durable tea storage container to help expand tea distribution channels and established the "Gyokuro Method," crafting gyokuro tea leaves into beautiful, needle-like, vibrant green forms, laying the foundation for the revival of Uji tea—synonymous with premium tea.
Now in its fifth generation, the main family continues to deliver exceptional tea from its base in Uji City, Kyoto, never forgetting the spirit of founder Riemon TSUJI.
