Motive behind the name
"LG21"
The name also conveys the high expectations and strong faith of Meiji’s employees in this special strain of lactic acid bacteria. “LG21” is shorthand for the scientific name of the lactic acid bacteria that were discovered as well as an expression of their hope that the 21st century would bring better times for humanity. They also wanted to quickly and clearly signal through the name that the new yogurts were quite different from the conventional ones. Although they knew that consumers might find the name strange at first, as they begin to realize the bacterial strain’s great health benefits, they thought it could symbolize the next generation of yogurt products over time. So, the name “LG21” was given, reflecting their firm belief in the enormous potential of this special bacterial strain.
